Service number TX4544, gunner. Enlisted in Hobart on 27 March 1941, next of kin Francis Ling of South Riana later West Pine. Roland was an unmarried farm labourer, 5’10” with blue eyes, fair complexion and light brown hair. Employed in Signals. Served in the Middle East 3 September 1941 to 25 March 1943 and Borneo 6 July 1945 to 24 January 1946, His total amount of service was 1786 days with 823 in Australia and 803 overseas. He suffered from health issues while in the Middle East which caused hospitalization – Rubella and nasal problems. He was discharged in February 1946.
