Roy was enrolled at South Riana, number 331 on 21 January 1925 by his father George, a farmer from South Riana, living 1¾ miles from the school. He left on 28 August 1931 with the reason being ‘working at home’.
Military Records
Service number 52259, L.A.C. Next of kin Mollie Clarke, wife. He enlisted in Melbourne on 21 March 1942 and discharged 1 February 1046.
According to his son Dale, ‘when he joined up they were at Flemington Racecourse, then moved to Point Cook for training. Next they went to Shepparton Showgrounds and then onto Lake Boga where he worked as an Airframe Engineer on Catalina aircraft’
The No1 Flying Boat Repair Depot 1941 – 1947 was based at Lake Boga where there is now a Flying Boat Museum.
