Badge number 7432, Pearl was a member of the Australian Women’s Land Army (AWLA). Unfortunately very few, if any, records exist of the Tasmanian branch of the service. The AWLA was officially formed on 27 July 1942. Within two years almost 3000 women were working – growing fruit and vegetables, in the cotton industry, on dairy farms or with poultry and in sheep and wool work. A minimum wage was paid for their work. The Land Army was disbanded in December 1945.
