Enrolment number 434 Riana State School. Admitted on 19 February 1929 by his father W.A. (Arnold William) Chellis, shopkeeper of Riana, living 1 ½ miles from the school. He left in June 1937 as he was over age.
Military Records
Service number TX12750. Corporal 22 Aust Motor Regiment.
He enlisted at Laburnum Park (Tasmania) on 17 December 1942, aged19. His next of kin was listed as his father Arnold of Penguin. Lindsay was a single farmer, 5’8 ½” tall with blue eyes, bright complexion and fair hair. He was employed in the Army as a Driver Mechanic. He served in the C.M.F. from 3 Feb 1941 – 16 Dec 1942, and the A.I.F from 17 Dec 42 – 29 Jan 1946, a total of 1457 days – 1105 in Australia and 251 overseas in Borneo (11 Apr 1945 – 17 Jan 1946). Whilst in Queensland in Nov 1944 he suffered from “Cerebral Concussion…by accidental injury, and a lacerated calf… an Army vehicle in which he was a passenger overturned” and it was classed as “not a minor injury”. His unit in Borneo and on discharge was 1st Beach Workshop.
