Military Records

Service number TX3910 of the 2/40 Battalion.  He enlisted in Smithton on 21 July 1940.   He was a single, casual labourer aged 21 from Smithton, 5’ 4 “, with grey eyes and brown hair. His next of kin was named as Thomas Wright, his father.

In October 1940 he was admitted to Vaucluse Hospital with mumps and in November was hospitaized again with Varicose Veins. In early 1941 he was transferred from Brighton to Bonegilla in Victoria per SS Zealandia, then was transferred to Caulfield a month later. He was discharged in February 1941 as being ‘medically unfit for service not occasioned by his own default’ – he had been diagnosed with flat feet. His total service was 215 days.
