8 September 1960 in East Melbourne and is buried at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery.

Enrolment number 112 South Riana State School under the name Charles. His father William was a farmer living a mile from the school. Admission date was 21 March 1913 with his sister ‘Dolly’ (Mary). He left in September 1919  ‘removed to Riana’. According to the Riana State School Admission records he did not attend school there.

 

Military Records

Service number TX5366, Private 2/5 Aust Coy.  Enlisted in Launceston on 6 May 1941 aged almost 34 years with next of kin William, his father, now living in Gippsland, Vic. He was a single farm labourer with a home address of Kindred.  He had previously served with the 22nd Light Horse. He served in the Middle East November 1941 – March 1942, PNG July 1942 – January 1943 and again August 1943 – May 1944 and then N.E. I. June 1945 – December 1946. He also served some time in Japan. His total service from June 1941 to January 1947 was 2079 days, with 739 in Australia and 1126 overseas. He was discharged January 1947.
