Enrolment # 389 at South Riana on 6 February 1928.  Birthdate of 1 December 1921 given by Alex Oliver, farmer of South Riana living 1 ½ miles from school. Donald began in P/1, in 1929 I, 1930 and 1931 II, 1932 III, 1933 IV, 1934/1935/1936 V. He did not pass the Compulsory Standard. He left in December 1936 over age.

Military Records

Service number T28430 placed in 12/50 Btn. He enlisted at Penguin on 7 October 1941 aged almost 19, giving his birthdate as 1 December 1922, next of kin Ruth May Oliver, mother of South Riana, C of E, a single farmer and having light brown hair and blue eyes. He served only in Tasmania, being released on 1 June 1943 for ‘Farm Work with father’.
