Service number TX11390 enlisting at Burnie on 26 August 1941, giving his father Walter James Wright of Fitzroy Vic as next of kin.  Soon afterwards he was transferred to the 2/5 Aust General Hospital with a rank of Private . He served in the Citizens Military Force (Full Time Duty) 26 Aug 41 – 28 Aug 42 and then the AIF as a volunteer 29 Aug 42 – 11 Dec 45. While in the AIF he worked as a Cook. In January 1944 he embarked from Townsville for Port Moresby on the ‘Canberra’ and in June of that year suffered from Malaria. He returned to Brisbane in July 1944. On discharge in 1945 he was 22 years of age, married with two children. He was 5’5”with blue eyes, black hair and a mid complexion. His total service was 1469 days, with 904 in Australia and 434 overseas.
