Military Records
Service Number RAAF 30701. Previous service had been in the 12/50th Btn from 1937 – 1940. Enlisted at Hobart on 16 December 1941 giving his next of kin as his mother Sarah living at South Riana. He had previously worked for 3 years as an employee at Johnstone Bros. in Latrobe and 18 months as a motor mechanic at Duncan Loane Pty Ltd in Devonport. Both gave him good character references. On enlistment he was placed as a Messman, then on 9 June 1941 he became a Nursing Orderly, passing a course in January 1941, and then on 1 September 1943 he was began a new ‘trade’ as a Medical Orderly. He served at Laverton, Ballarat, Mallala and Perth W.A.. He was discharged from the RAAF on 30 January 1946 on demobilization as a Sergeant, 5’8 ½ tall with fair hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
